Traveling to New Orleans

New Orleans vacation

If you have ever been to New Orleans you will immediately recognize the aroma of the infamous Bourbon Street that permeates the streets of the city. If you haven’t been to New Orleans before, it’s very easy to forget that there is so much to do in this place. You can really enjoy yourself here as there is a great mix of both relaxed and adventurous activities.

Most tourists tend to spend their first week in New Orleans in the French Quarter. There you can enjoy yourself with a great dinner as well as a nightcap each night for the cost of $12 to $15 each. By the end of your first week you will likely be sore so you can start buccaneers (USA south coast) to visit the fabulous Cajun restaurants for a cheap supper and a dance. One such restaurant is the Peabody, also known as “Gumbo’s” because it was founded by Gumbo, a former Gumbo’s messenger.

For the history buff, you can visit the French Quarter. Go down to the market and you will find dozens of interactions with the inhabitants. Their life in the past is much more interesting than what you may have been led to believe.

If you are interested in history, then visit the National World War II Museum. There you will see many of the memorials to the fallen as well as a planes and guns exhibition. There is also the memorial to the sea divers that died in the war, as well as a walking tour for the pals of World War II veterans.

One of the best kept secrets of New Orleans is the Jackson Square area. I have been to New Orleans three times and never noticed this little jewel of the city. Today it is one of the most popular places in the French Quarter. Again, for the history buff, this place is incredible.

actually New Orleans is home to a rather large carving contest. Each year four teams of carvers, architects, and artists come to New Orleans to compete for the pride of being the best. The best of the best will be chosen and receive a prestigious prize.

Take a visit to the market and be sure to sample the delicious cuisine. I’m not sure how much I’ll pay for this thing, but it will be worth it.

It is always enjoyable to visit a city that has a great history and culture. New Orleans has everything that you could want out of a city. I didn’t know this till a friend who does roof installation Texas and just got back from New Orleans and he told me, “For families, it is a city that is fun for the kids as well as adults. The adults may or may not be as fun as the kids, but they do give you plenty to do. For children, New Orleans has a huge market scene with something on practically every corner. Go to a grocery store and you could find bugs crawling all over the place and in one of those moments, you’ll wish you had been in New Orleans.”

Don’t be too hard on yourself when you get back to your hotel. The fun had been, it’s there for the taking. You’ve had a great vacation, you’ve had a real New Orleans experience. We can all use more of that.
